Let Us Help Pause Your Child’s Growing Nearsightedness

We know raising kids comes with a million questions; sometimes, their eyesight can be one big question mark. Your kid might squint to see the board in class, miss the ball during game time, or bump into objects they don’t see coming.

Nearsightedness (myopia) can prevent your child from keeping up in class or participating fully in activities they love. We offer solutions like MiSight to help your children control myopia progression and excel both inside and outside the classroom.

We’re here to help answer all your questions about your child’s vision and work with you to manage myopia progression, helping to safeguard their future vision.

What Is Myopia Management?

Nearsightedness, or myopia, is a common vision problem where seeing things far away becomes blurry. It happens when the eyeball grows too long from front to back (the overall shape or front curvature).

Eyes can continue growing throughout childhood, so your child’s amount of nearsightedness can worsen. Myopia control uses methods to slow eye growth to prevent worsening myopia.

Nearsightedness Is More Than Just Blurry Vision

Myopia isn’t just about blurry vision today. It’s progressive, meaning your child might find themselves needing their corrective lenses more and more. They might start with only needing glasses for TV time; eventually, it can become an all-day necessity.

Research shows that if we don’t control our myopia, we could increase the risk of serious eye conditions later in life, like glaucoma, cataracts, retinal tears, and even macular degeneration. As the eye grows, it stretches the eye tissue, which can weaken its structure and health.

But here’s the good news: by managing your child’s myopia early on, we can help them see the world more clearly and lower their chances of those future conditions.

Our Myopia Control Options

Traditional prescription glasses and contact lenses help with blurry vision but don’t address the root of your child’s nearsightedness. While prescriptions can improve your child’s eyesight, their eyes can still grow.

Myopia control is focused on prevention, aiming to slow down or even pause the progression.

EyeWest Vision Clinic offers a variety of myopia control options. We’re here to partner with you and your child, finding the approach that suits their individual needs and providing educational support to help safeguard their sight.

MiSight Contact Lenses

MiSight 1-day lenses are FDA-approved disposable contact lenses designed to slow down the progression of nearsightedness (myopia) in children.

Unlike traditional contacts, MiSight lenses have a unique center zone that can correct vision and an outer zone that focuses light differently.

Their design helps reduce eye strain and slow the eye’s growth, potentially reducing the need for stronger prescriptions as they grow.

Similar to bifocals for adults, these contacts have different focus zones. One zone is designed to clear up blurred vision, while the other helps redirect light to prevent eye growth.

The lens’s zone design is seamless so that kids can experience clear vision through all angles of the lens.

Low-dose atropine eye drops work by relaxing the focusing muscles in the eye, which can help slow down myopia development. The eye drops offer a convenient option for younger children who might not be ready for contact lenses yet.
